Syringomas (Enlarged Sweat Glands on the Cheeks and Eyelids)
Serving Hamilton, Stoney Creek, Grimsby and surrounding areas
Syringomas
- Are not cancerous
- Are not warts
- Are not contagious
- May sometimes be inherited from other family members (genetic)
- Are not ‘fat deposits’
- Are not ‘calcium deposits’
- Are not ‘cholesterol deposits’
- Are not due to diet
- Are not due to makeup
- Are of no danger to you
- Are due to overgrowth or a portion of sweat glands in the skin
- Are most common on the lower eyelids but may also occur on upper eyelids and the cheeks
Treatment
- Local anesthetic is injected to numb the area to be treated
- A tiny heated instrument is used to ‘zap’ the spots
- This causes them to become crusted and to heal flat and even with the skin surface
- The flat areas usually blend in with your normal skin
- More syringomas will grow over time
- The treated areas may sometimes regrow over several months or years
- There is no way to prevent syringomas from growing or developing
- Treating syringomas will not cause more lesions to grow, than would have grown in the first place
