How does a wrinkle form?
- Your skin consists of two layers known as the epidermis and the dermis
- The dermis, or innermost layer of the skin, is composed primarily of connective tissue and provides the skin with a support network.
- Most facial wrinkles and deeper nasolabial folds occur within the dermal layer of the skin
- Much like a sponge, its primary function is to absorb water, which creates volume in the face
- As we age, HA diminishes, which contributes to the presence of lines and folds. Hyaluronic acid fillers (Juvederm®, Restylane®) work to correct this by restoring hyaluronic acid in your skin
What areas can be treated?:
- Crow’s feet
- Laugh lines
- Smoker’s lines
- Frown lines
- Superficial to Moderate wrinkles
What is a hyaluronic acid filler made of?
Hyaluronic acid is a substance which is naturally present in the skin. It is of non-animal origin and unlike collagen, it does not require any preliminary test.
Who can get this treatment?
Hyaluronic acid is suitable for patients of all ages and all skin types.
How is it done?
- Hyaluronic acid filler is a nonsurgical, physician-administered treatment
- Using a fine needle, the doctor eases the filler under the skin to fill the soft tissue of the dermis
- This adds volume and diminishes the appearance of wrinkles and nasolabial folds instantly
- The treatment session lasts 30 to 45 minutes in most cases
- We offer local anaesthesia to make the correction more comfortable, by applying an anaesthetic cream or by local superficial anaesthesia
- Some filler products contain local anesthetic to make the injection more comfortable
- Fillers are available in a variety of formulations increasing versatility—
- some are used for contouring and volumizing facial wrinkles and folds,
- and others for deeper folds and facial wrinkles
Post-Injection Recommendations:
- In the hours following the injection, we recommend that you avoid excessive facial expressions.
- You are not recommended to expose yourself to sunlight or excessive heat (e.g. sauna) for long times during the weeks after the injection; or to touch, handle or massage the site injected
- Make up and usual care may be used on the day after treatment
What are the possible side effects?
- Inflammatory reactions (redness and swelling) which may be associated with stinging or pain on pressure may occur after the injection
- These reactions may last for a week
- Swelling or nodules may develop at the injection site
- Very rare cases of discolouration (reversible) of the injection area have been reported
- Also, very rare cases of necrosis (severe tissue damage), infection, long lasting inflammation (granulomas) and allergy are possible

- Areas with inflammatory and/or infectious skin problems (acne etc.)
