Brittle Nails (Onychoschizzia):
- May present as nails which are thick, peeling or separating into layers at the end of the nail
- May be caused by excessive exposure to strong soap and water, or nail polish remover
- Is not a fungal infection or contagious
- Does not improve with anti-fungal treatments
General Measures
- Use lukewarm water to wash your hands and wear gloves when working with cleaners, solvents, detergents, bleaches and other harsh chemicals
- Do not push back your cuticles, this increases the risk of infection around the nail
- Maintain a healthy diet
- Use a high quality, gentle bar soap
- Use a high quality moisturizer for your hands
Nail Rejuvenation Treatments:
- I am now pleased to offer nail rejuvenation treatments in my office
- These treatments help to make the nails stronger, more flexible, less brittle and healthier
- Nail rejuvenation treatments have been shown to strengthen weak and brittle nails
- At least one month of treatment is required for for improvement
- This treatment can be applied under nail polish to protect the nails and to strengthen them
