Tinea Versicolour (Pityriasis Versicolour):

• Is caused by a yeast called Malassezia furfur which:
  • Is a beige colour and produces flaky beige spots on the trunk, neck, arms and legs
  • Produces a chemical which prevents tanning of the skin
    • This causes white spots to appear on the skin
    • These are not scars
• Is not contagious
• Is not dangerous
• Does not scar or leave permanent marks
• Lives in the environment around us
• Is not due to poor hygiene
