Tinea Versicolour (Pityriasis Versicolour)
Tinea Versicolour (Pityriasis Versicolour):
- Is caused by a yeast called Malassezia furfur which:
- Is a beige colour and produces flaky beige spots on the trunk, neck, arms and legs
- Produces a chemical which prevents tanning of the skin
- This causes white spots to appear on the skin
- These are not scars
- Is not contagious
- Is not dangerous
- Does not scar or leave permanent marks
- Lives in the environment around us
- Is not due to poor hygiene
